The chat feature broke down when the forum software was upgraded to the latest version.
I'm looking for a solution to the problem. Until it's found, the chat feature will be disabled.

I specifically do not want to scatter the discussion around to different apps. One of the issues related to them is the loss of the chat history. Even I don't use the forum every day, but that's not a problem since the discussion proceeds at the rate it does and the full history is easily available. If we take this to mobile apps, it changes the rate in a way that really doesn't work too well right now.
